ABOUT

Perth-based, Western Australian photographer specialising in two distinct specialties that do not mix; portraiture and sports.

Portraiture and sports photography are fundamentally distinct realms, each demanding its own unique approach. My vision is driven by a deep passion for capturing what’s real: whether it’s the authenticity of a portrait subject or the intensity of a fleeting moment in competition. I believe portraiture connects through expression, vulnerability, and the beauty of imperfection, while sports photography channels raw energy, emotion, and intensity. Both genres, however, celebrate the unfiltered essence of who we are, exposing the human spirit in its most honest form.

Philosophy

Where portraiture celebrates the soul.

By working primarily in black and white, I uncover depth and purity that colour cannot convey. It’s about what’s felt, what’s authentic. I distil moments beyond the surface: the soul, the truth, and imperfections that expose the raw beauty of human experience. As Ted Grant (1980) put it, “When you photograph people in colour, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls.”

Where sport is captured, undistilled.

By immortalising the raw emotion and human spirit of competition, I capture what truly matters in every moment. I anticipate the defining moments of sport: the intensity, the focus, and the relentless drive, alongside the flaws that make the athlete profoundly authentic. As Walter Iooss Jr. (2002) put it, “In sports photography, your job is to capture the moment that defines a season, a career, or a game. You’re trying to get that one shot that says it all.”
